How much tax is collected - and what changes when we account for prices, population and the size of the economy?
From year must be earlier than or equal to To year.

Sources & methodology+
SCB is the only data provider. Calculations made on this site are explained below.
Real amounts are expressed in 2025 prices using CPI. The year in the tooltip identifies the observation, not the price reference year.
Total taxes use SCB’s ODD definition: compulsory taxes including compulsory social contributions. SCB’s SEK millions are divided by 1,000 to obtain SEK billions. The tax-to-GDP ratio is taken directly from SCB at current prices. The latest two years are preliminary and historical observations may be revised.
Real amount in year t = nominal amount in year t × annual average CPI in the reference year / annual average CPI in year t. CPI comes from TAB4352 (1980=100); the reference year can be selected independently of the chart period. CPI adjustment measures purchasing power against consumer prices, not the volume of public services. No extrapolation beyond source coverage is performed.
Average population = (population on 31 December of the previous year + population on 31 December of the current year) / 2, from TAB4365. Real taxes per capita = real taxes in SEK bn × 1,000,000,000 / average population. From 2025 SCB adds a small amount of uncertainty for disclosure protection.
Every chart starts with SCB data. Years, units and calculations stay visible throughout. Changes over time do not, by themselves, establish the effects of a particular policy.
TAB121 · Tax ratio (current prices), percentage of GDP by type of tax. Year 1950-2025
The tax ratio refers to compulsory total tax revenues in relation to GDP.
The last two years is considered preliminary.
Taxes on production and imports to EU consists of e.g., custom duties, agricultural duties and sugar fees.
The Premium Pension Scheme and other defined contribution pension schemes are not included in general government.
Concerning voluntary and imputed social contributions, it represents the counterpart to social benefits paid directly by employers (i.e., not linked to employer´ actual contributions) to their employees or former employees and other eligible persons.
TAB4352 · Consumer Price Index (CPI), Fixed Index numbers, total annual average, 1980=100. Year 1980-2025
From the reference year 2025 onwards, a small controlled random uncertainty is introduced in all reported data. The uncertainty has been added to protect individuals so that no one risks being exposed in the statistics. As a result, the reported totals are not always equal to the sum of their reported components.
If reported statistical values are added together to create a new total, the uncertainty is also added. There is therefore a risk that the new total contains greater uncertainty than that which – under the method – would have been added to a single value.
The method used for disclosure control is called Cell Key Method (CKM). You can read more about the method here: [Protection methods for disclosure control](https://www.scb.se/en/documentation/statististical-methods/protection-methods-for-disclosure-control/) and here: [Development of disclosure protection](https://www.scb.se/en/documentation/statistical-areas-under-change/development-of-disclosure-protection/).
